Learn more about what we do

The most common question that we get is - "How do we get started?"

We think that the best way to get involved in the sport is to attend our weekly leagues. These are very beginner-friendly and we have lots of disc dog enthusiasts who are more than happy to help you get started.

There are Captains in each League who are great resources for you.  The Captain will get you started and will answer any of your questions!

We also have archived resources which contain excellent information and are still available (through a member)

We have all kind of great information for you to get started in the sport or just to improve your current level.

This is what we do!!!

However if you are still unsure please reach out to us!

We teach our dogs with two basic games

Disc Dog 101

Game #1 - The TUG

The game of tug. This is where to start and really this is one of the most important aspects of disc dog. if a dog is playing tug with you that means they are focused on you and no one else. The game of tug brings excitement to you and will eventually turn into a super fast return.

Game #2 - The THROW

Rollers. (This is where we roll the disc on the ground) Then we move to a very short toss. After a few rounds of successful short tosses, try to toss a littler farther. Then eventually you will throw a short toss into the air.

Put It All Together!

You and your canine teammate will be able to practice and put it all together on the field!  You will quickly see how Toss & Fetch is one of the fastest growing worldwide canine/human sports!

BACKHAND GRIP WITH MATT BILDERBACK

A tutorial of the backhand throw. The backhand is usually the first throw a novice will learn. It’s the backbone of the sport, and the throw most commonly used for Toss & Fetch competitions. It’s also the basis of a number of variations and trick throws.

SELECTING A DISC

Matt Bilderback gives some good information for novice players regarding the characteristics of discs that are safe for dogs to play with.

TEACHING THE DROP

It’s a key behavior for the sport of disc. Having a fast, reliable drop on a verbal cue from anywhere on the field can allow you to get more throws in Toss & Catch and smoother sequences & more options in Freestyle. It opens up new strategies in games like Time Warp & 4Way Play. It’s one of the most basic building blocks in our sport. Yet it’s one that many people struggle with.
